Apple News

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is an independent non-ministerial government department in the United Kingdom that is responsible for promoting competition and protecting consumers.

It has recently opened an investigation into the dominance of both Apple and Google’s ownership of Alphabet Inc. in the mobile browser market. This investigation was prompted by a separate study that found that these companies have the power to exercise a stranglehold on operating systems, app stores, and web browsers on mobile devices. Alphabet is not involved in this challenge.

Apple has accused the CMA of not following the proper rules and procedures with the timing of the probe, stating that it is “invalid” and has “no legal effect,” according to court documents. The company has also requested that the court pause the investigation until a decision is made. The CMA has stated that they will defend their position and continue to progress their work in line with the statutory timetable. The investigation can take up to 18 months to complete.
