BAE Systems News:

On March 13th, the AUKUS trilateral agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States made headlines when it was announced that BAE Systems would play a key role in helping Australia acquire its first nuclear-powered submarines. This partnership will deliver a trilaterally developed submarine based on the UK’s next-generation design, incorporating technology from all three nations.

BAE Systems has an impressive track record of delivering submarines to the UK Royal Navy, with five Astute class submarines already in service and two more in advanced stages of construction. The company is also undertaking early design work on the replacement for the Astute class under an £85m contract announced in September 2021.

To support its submarines programs, BAE Systems has invested over £1bn to develop and expand infrastructure at its shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, including a state-of-the-art training academy. In recent years, the company has recruited over 1,300 apprentices and graduates into its UK Submarines business, with plans to recruit a further 1,000 early careers trainees this year.

This partnership is not just about delivering submarines, but also about investing in skills and infrastructure to support the delivery of submarines programs. The AUKUS agreement is a significant step forward for Australia’s defense capabilities and will undoubtedly strengthen the strategic alliance between the three nations.
