Ford Motor Company (F:NYE) Introduces New EV Van-E-Tourneo

Ford Unveils New E-Tourneo Courier EV Van

Ford’s recently revealed their new E-Tourneo Courier, which is not slated for release in the United States. While Ford offers the E-Transit as an EV cargo vehicle, the absence of a smaller EV runabout option for families may leave a gap in the market.

The Ford E-Tourneo Courier is a product of the joint partnership between Ford and Volkswagen, similar to the all-electric Ford Explorer available exclusively in Europe. However, this latest EV offering seems to deviate from the traditional van concept. Ford refers to it as a “multi-activity vehicle,” boasting “SUV-inspired” aesthetics, which might strike some as an unusual compromise, but has some similarities to the older Ford Flex design.

Despite its classification, the E-Tourneo Courier possesses attractive qualities that could resonate with American consumers. Notably, the EV platform allows for ample interior space. Ford claims that the E-Tourneo offers 44 percent more trunk cargo space than its predecessor. Additionally, with the absence of an internal combustion engine (ICE), the vehicle provides a front trunk or “frunk” with approximately 68 square feet of extra storage. The configurable center console and a hidden trunk “cubby” add further versatility. The E-Tourneo is equipped with Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment software, accessible through a 12-inch touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, catering to the demand for seamless connectivity.

The E-Tourneo Courier comes standard with a 134-horsepower electric motor and offers the option for one-pedal driving, enhancing efficiency and regenerative braking. Ford has not disclosed the EV’s range, but it does support 100 kW DC fast charging. Using a fast charger, the E-Tourneo can add approximately 54 miles of range in just 10 minutes, while reaching 80 percent battery capacity in 35 minutes. With an 11 kW AC charger, the EV can go from 10 to 100 percent in 5.7 hours. While Ford has not released pricing details, it is expected that the E-Tourneo Courier will be competitively priced, appealing to budget-conscious buyers.

The absence of a small yet spacious EV van/SUV option like the E-Tourneo Courier in the American market might disappoint potential buyers seeking a family-friendly electric vehicle. However, if the E-Tourneo or a similar offering proves successful, there is a possibility that Ford may consider introducing it to the states in the future. As the EV market continues to evolve, manufacturers are recognizing the need for diverse options to cater to different consumer preferences and lifestyles.

Ford’s unveiling of the E-Tourneo Courier, a compact EV van with SUV-inspired features, presents an appealing proposition for American consumers seeking a versatile electric vehicle. With its generous cargo space, advanced infotainment system, and promising charging capabilities, the E-Tourneo Courier holds significant potential. Although the vehicle is not currently slated for release in the United States, its success overseas might pave the way for future introductions that cater to American families’ needs for efficient and spacious electric transportation options.
